In a priest’s footsteps

The St. Xavier’s College Calcutta Alumni Association (SXCCAA) hosted a small ceremony to mark the silver jubilee of priesthood of Father Felix Raj, the SXCCAA president and principal of the college. The ceremony began with a song by a present student of the college followed by a performance by the members of XADAM (Xaverian Academy for Dance and Music) that, interspersed with a video and voice-over by Felix Raj talking about his journey, depicted his life from the time he was in school and interested in sports to when he became a part of St. Xavier’s College.

“I did not want a ceremony because Jesuits don’t celebrate jubilees. But (Firdausal) Hasan, the secretary of the alumni association, told me, ‘Father, this time you have to obey me’. And I had to give in,” said Felix Raj, who said he was touched by the simplicity and the meaningfulness of the celebration. Many Xaverians had gathered for the ceremony held at the college auditorium on April 30. The present student council to past presidents of the SXCCAA, including founder secretary Sunanda Sen, were present on the occasion. A book of photographs based on Felix Raj’s life was also released at the ceremony by the rector of St. Xavier’s school and college, Father Dominic Savio.
