Calcutta: The city franchise of the Indian Super League (ISL) has sent invitations to a host of foreign coaches who are with different I-League teams, co-owner Sourav Ganguly informed on Friday.
“We have sent invitations to Ashley Westwood (Bengaluru FC), Arthur Papas (Dempo Sports Club), Mike Snoei (Pune FC) and also to Trevor James Morgan. Armando Colaco’s name is there as well.
“We would have liked to send an invitation to Subhas Bhowmick as well, but he has already joined Mohun Bagan. Subrata Bhattacharya’s name is also in the list,” Sourav said at the Eden.
Even if Westwood gets the ‘local coach’s’ job, he is very unlikely to take it since he is already under contract with Bengaluru FC.
Sourav revealed that the head coach would be selected by Atletico Madrid, while the local coach and assistant coaches will be decided by panel of former players. “It will be a three-tier hierarchy. The head coach, then the local coach and the assistant coach,” he said.
Atletico Madrid officials are arriving on Tuesday to have a first-hand experience of the infrastructure. “Senior officials will be here. They will also be visiting the Salt Lake Stadium. Let’s see how things unfold,” he said.
Atletico will be playing the Champions League final against Real Madrid in Lisbon on May 24 and Sourav will be there rooting for the Diego Simeone-coached side. “Yes I will be there in Lisbon.”
Talking about Atletico’s memorable 3-1 win over Chelsea in the semi-final at Stamford Bridge, Sourav said: “It was a great winů Simply superb.”
