Calcutta: India will play the Davis Cup World Group play-off tie against Serbia in Bangalore, Bharat Oza, executive vice president and secretary of the All India Tennis Association, said in a statement on Monday.
For the important tie against a rather formidable opponent, the AITA listened to what the players wanted before deciding on the home venue.
The AITA officials discussed Delhi as a venue also for the crucial play-off tie, to be held from September 12-14, but on the insistence of the players, Bangalore was finally selected to host the matches.
Last year, in Bangalore, India won against Indonesia 5-0.
“We consulted the captain (Anand Amritraj) and also the players before deciding the host city. Maybe the players like the slow courts there, so they wanted matches in Bangalore,” Oza said.
