HC prod on parking lots

Ranchi, April 28: Jharkhand High Court today sought a time frame from Ranchi district administration on making land available for construction of parking lots in the city.

The court asked district land acquisition officer Gyanendra Kumar to file a status report on land acquired in the state capital for the purpose.

Kumar, who was present in court, said that the land acquisition department had initiated the process and notices had been issued for acquiring land near Sujata Chowk on Main Road, Upper Bazar and Kokar.

A division bench of justices D.N. Patel and Amitava Kumar Gupta were hearing a PIL filed by Ashish Kumar Singh for construction of parking lots in Ranchi since the main artery was perennially clogged with traffic and there was no parking space available for residents.

Earlier, the land acquisition department had informed the court that it would take a year for the state to acquire land for the purpose.

The judges weren’t satisfied with the government’s stand and had, therefore, asked the officer to appear in person and provide a status report.
