Accounts poser for Arpita

Calcutta, April 28: The Enforcement Directorate today questioned Trinamul Lok Sabha poll candidate Arpita Ghosh for the second time.

After questioning Arpita for over two-and-a-half-hours today, ED officials said they might again call Ghosh, who had been employed with a Saradha Group channel that never went on air.

According to ED sources, Ghosh had said during the questioning on Friday that she was not involved in the financial transactions of the channel, where she had been the executive editor. “But we came across some accounts-related documents Ghosh had signed. We asked her about this today and she gave an explanation. We will verify her claim,” a source in the agency said.

Ghosh said in a text message to The Telegraph after the questioning: “I cannot tell you anything what I have discussed with them as you know it’s confidential.”

An ED official said that during Friday’s session, the agency had asked Ghosh to give replies in writing. “But this time, we cross-examined her,” the official said.

The ED sources said the agency had told painter Shuvaprasanna one-and-a-half months ago to furnish documents related to Ekhon Shomoy, the channel that Ghosh used to work for, before Saradha owner Sudipta Sen bought it.

“I was asked to give some documents related to the channel and I handed them over,” Shuvaprasanna said today.

Asked if the ED had called him recently, he said: “Had the investigating agency served such a notice on me, I would have been happy. But I haven’t yet received any notice.”

Piyali freed

Sen’s wife Piyali was released from the Alipore correctional home for women today after one of her relatives mortgaged a property to the city sessions court.
