Attack on official

Shillong, April 24: An armed group today allegedly attacked South Garo Hills deputy commissioner Chinmay P. Gotmare at 6.40pm while he was on his way to the district headquarters in Baghmara.

While Gotmare was unhurt, his driver and securityman were reportedly hit by bullets. The duo have been hospitalised in Tura, from where they were returning, sources said.

Sources also said the area where the incident took place is 35km from Baghmara and more than 400km from here. However, it is not known if those who fired at the deputy commissionerís vehicle were highway dacoits or militants.

This was the second attack on Gotmare in less than four months. In January, a group of suspected militants, reportedly fired a few rounds in the air and allegedly chased his vehicle.
