CPM liquor finger at Trinamul

Calcutta, April 22: The CPM leadership today alleged that the ruling Trinamul was distributing cash to voters and liquor to central forces in some areas and demanded that the Election Commission should immediately look into the matter.

Addressing newspersons at Alimuddin Street today, CPM state secretary and Left Front chairman Biman Bose said: “Trinamul Congress leaders often say that they belong to a poor party. But the reality is that they don’t have any dearth of money. They are distributing cash among voters in some of the areas going to the second phase of polls (on April 24). Trinamul men are also supplying liquor to central security forces and feeding them delicious chicken preparations.

An Election Commission source said: “We have received some complaints.... We have been taking such complaints very seriously.’’

Trinamul minister and party secretary-general Partha Chatterjee said: “People will laugh at Bimanbabu for making such remarks against us. The CPM is losing its base fast and the polls will prove that.”
