Chandigarh: Somnath Chatterjee, eminent Parliamentarian and a former Speaker of the Lok Sabha, won’t be amused.
Because, according to The Telegraph’s sources, the emergent working committee meeting of the Board didn’t approve Chatterjee’s name for the panel to probe the list of 13 given to the Supreme Court, in a sealed cover, by Justice Mukul Mudgal and his colleagues.
Chatterjee’s name was proposed by Shashank Manohar, a former president of the Board.
Even Board vice-president Chitrak Mitra’s suggestion that Chatterjee’s name also be forwarded to the apex court, and the decision be left to the bench hearing the case, wasn’t accepted.
One wonders if Chatterjee’s consent was taken before his name was proposed.
It’s understood that Manohar also proposed the name of L. Nageswar Rao, who was on the Justice Mudgal panel, but it wasn’t approved.
Rao is the country’s additional solicitor-general.
