Guwahati, April 20: A splendid ton by Gourav Thakuria helped Goalpara trounce Nagaon by 100 runs in their match of the second Umananda Bora Inter-District Under-13 Cricket Tournament at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here today.
Goalpara batsmen went on to pile up a competitive total of 236 runs for the loss of three wickets in the stipulated 40 overs. In reply, Nagaon boys managed 136 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
Despite an early blow, Goalpara opener Gourav Thakuria and Abhishek Dey steered the ship to safety with some fine batting.
Thakuria topscored with an unbeaten 109 runs off 124 balls, which featured 11 hits to the fence, while Dey was out for 68 runs off 110 deliveries, which included seven boundaries. None of the other batsmen managed to reach the double figure mark while the side tallied 53 runs as extras.
Rahul Kumar and Subhan Paul picked up a wicket each for their side. For Nagaon, Bhaishya Bharis Sarma remained not out on 42 runs off 82 balls, including five hits to the fence, while Subhan Paul with 15 and Gopal Krishna Ghosh with 12 runs were the other contributors for Nagaon. Abhijit Baidya picked up two wickets giving away 23 runs in his seven overs while Inamul Haque, Abhishek Dey and Asif Karim bagged a wicket each.
