‘Parthiv showed lot of character’

Royal Challengers Bangalore put up an all-round performance to defeat defending champions by seven wickets on Saturday. Captain Virat Kohli, obviously, sounded quite happy with the performance.

Excerpts

Virat Kohli: It’s a lovely feeling to be a captain of this side. Two wins in two games… The boys did extremely well. We were a bit nervous when we slumped to 17 for three, but Parthiv showed a lot of character… He was superb. AB de Villiers also batted brilliantly and showed a positive attitude. They both did exceptionally well as they shared a huge partnership. This shows the true character of the team.

Rohit Sharma: We were short on the runs. 115 was always going to be difficult for the bowlers to defend. Still, the bowlers gave us a good start and tried their hearts out. We were in the game for the first nine overs or so. But they had a big partnership. We have world-class bowlers like Lasith Malinga, but the batsmen should take up more responsibility and score enough runs so that the bowlers can defend the total.

Parthiv Patel (MoM): With the kind of batting line-up that we have got, it makes the job easier for batsmen like me. I can just go out and express myself without worrying too much about what would happen if we lose a wicket or two. And I quite enjoy this format.
