Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Watson praised youngsters Ajinkya Rahane and Stuart Binny for showing maturity and keeping a cool head, as the two helped Royals register a four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, in their opening match of the IPL VII, in Abu Dhabi, on Friday.
Shane Watson: Given the kind of batting line-up the Sunrisers have, we had anticipated a slightly bigger target. Credit to our bowlers… We stuck to our plans and restricted them to 133.
Ajinkya Rahane and Stuart Binny played really well to take us home. They were very patient and played sensibly to help us reach the target. The credit goes to them.
Shikhar Dhawan: We were about 20-30 runs short. About 150 would have been a good score. That cost us the game. At the start of the game, the wicket was double paced and there was a fair bit of swing on offer too. Unfortunately, David Warner and I could not carry on after getting a start and reach 50s.
Ajinkya Rahane (MoM): After we lost three quick wickets, I decided to bat as long as possible. I knew we needed one big partnership to clinch the match. Binny and I enjoy each other’s company at the crease. He has improved massively.
I didn’t try to play any extravagant shots. I always play proper cricketing shots and follow my instincts.
