Calcutta, April 17: Sudhir Kumar Rakesh, the special state observer for the Lok Sabha polls, spent his first day in Bengal as the “eyes and ears” of the Election Commission, going through complaints against poll officials and holding meetings.
“I am here to be the eyes and ears of the commission and I did what I was asked to do on the first day…. If necessary, I will start touring the districts after this,” Rakesh said at the state electoral officer’s office at 5.30pm.
Rakesh is expected to send a report to the EC tonight or tomorrow. He held a meeting with chief electoral officer Sunil Kumar Gupta and other senior officials to review poll preparedness for the next two phases, on April 24 and 30.
