Calcutta: Nilay Dutta, believe it or not, continues to be a member of the IPL’s governing council! According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the IPL’s websites, that is.
Lawyer Dutta had resigned from the governing council before the Justice Mukul Mudgal IPL probe committee was constituted on October 8, last year.
Obviously, six months isn’t time enough for the Board and the IPL to update their websites.
Dutta, one of the three members of the Justice Mudgal probe committee, gave a separate report when it was time for submission before the Supreme Court, two months ago.
L. Nageswar Rao completed the probe committee.
There was, meanwhile, talk that the Guwahati-based Dutta had been invited for Wednesday’s start of IPL VII in Abu Dhabi and a governing council meeting there.
Dutta, however, said he hadn’t received any invitation.
“The Board’s in the habit of sending emails. Well, I didn’t get any. In any case, it’s Bihu time in Assam and I couldn’t have left Guwahati,” Dutta told The Telegraph.
Nevertheless, a source insisted Dutta’s name was on the list prepared by Board secretary Sanjay Patel’s office in Vadodara.
