Hailakandi, April 16: Security has been tightened for tomorrow’s repoll at nine booths in the Barak valley.
Police and paramilitary forces will be deployed at all the centres.
In Silchar parliamentary constituency, repoll will be held in two booths — Jogai Madhai ME School’s room number 1 in Binnakandi part I village under Lakhipur Assembly constituency and Balichand LP School under Barkhola Assembly constituency.
The sub-divisional officer (SDO-civil) of Lakhipur subdivision, Nabarun Bhattacharjee, said the repoll was necessary at Jogai Madhai ME School centre because the electronic voting machine (EVM) was damaged.
On the day of the poll on April 12, around 3.30pm, after 70 per cent of the votes were cast, a group of 15-20 young men forcefully entered the booth and damaged the EVM with sticks.
The district administration recommended a repoll after getting a report from the presiding officer.
In the other booth, repoll was recommended because of a faulty EVM.
In Karimganj constituency, repoll will be held at seven booths because of reports of malfunctioning EVMs.
The booths are Gaglacherra LP School and Ananta Vidyaniketan (room number 1) under Hailakandi constituency, Deorail Maktab, Bhanga ME Madrassa and Rakeshnagar ME School under Badarpur constituency, Chargula LP School under Ratabari constituency and Nakirkona LP School under South Karimganj Assembly constituency.
In Hailakandi’s Gaglacherra ITI LP School, the presiding officer started the polling process without clearing the records of the mock poll, and some people objected to this.
Voting will start from 7am and conclude by 5pm.
