EB aim to carry on good form

Calcutta: East Bengal have been walking on a tightrope. Any false step and they may slip out of the I-League title race. So far, they have performed well in their endeavour, winning three matches on the trot.

With three matches still remaining, they will be eager to continue in the same form. Armando Colaco’s men, though, will also have to depend on the results of other matches if they want to end their campaign successfully.

East Bengal are now placed third, four points behind leaders Bengaluru FC and tied on points with Salgaocar FC. The immediate task on hand for East Bengal will be to beat Churchill Brothers when they meet at the Fatorda Stadium, Margao, on Wednesday. Colaco is aware of the importance of the tie.

“We cannot afford to drop any point. The league title race is tight and we must make every match count,” said Colaco. The biggest bane of East Bengal has been their inconsistency. Had they shown a bit of consistency at the start of the competition, Colaco believes they would have been in a much better position.

“We didn’t do too well at the start. It’s only now that things are falling into place,” said Colaco, whose team has won crucial games to give themselves a shot at the title.”
