Eight held for loot, theft in Ranchi

Ranchi, April 12: As many as eight persons were arrested from different parts of Ranchi since last night for their involvement in cases ranging from loot, theft to molestation.

Police busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of five persons, including two juveniles, in Sukhdevnagar area last night. The gang used to target trucks passing through the area at night. One country-made pistol, five rounds of cartridges, three mobile phones, two knives and three motorbikes were recovered from their possessions.

The three adults have been identified as Dharmaveer Kumar of Panchsheel Nagar in Pandra, Raju Kuma and Chandan Tiwari, both residents of Piska. The three are in the age group of 18-20 years, while the two juveniles are between 14 and 16 years.

Police are looking for one Chandan Kumar, another member of the gang.

Also, one Harikishore Das (20), a resident of Chuna Bhatta, was arrested for molesting a minor girl.

These apart, one Dilip Soni (19), a resident of Vidyanagar, and Abinash Kumar (19) of Patna were arrested in relation to different cases of theft. A stolen battery and a mobile phone were recovered from Soni and Kumarís possessions, respectively.

SP (city) Anup Birthare said, ďAll of them are to be produced before court, from where they will be forwarded to judicial custody.Ē

Two die

An electrician, Apran Saw (45), drowned while taking a bath in Dhurwa dam around 9am today.

In a separate incident, Jhanno Devi (35) drowned in a well at Kumharia village on the outskirts of Ranchi last night. She fell into the well while walking in sleep.
