Dhubri awaits star burst

Dhubri, April 11: Campaigning in Dhubri Lok Sabha seat will heat up after Bihu.

The Congress, BJP and the AIUDF have claimed that campaigning will resume from next week with the parties’ star campaigners making a beeline for this constituency.

The Congress camp is upbeat over poll campaigning either by Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi on any date after April 16.

“On April 16, chief minister Tarun Gogoi will address a poll rally at Mancachar and after that, the date of the rally for Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi will be finalised,” Dhubri Congress president Sushil Chandra Roy said.

Roy said Gogoi had campaigned in favour of Dhubri candidate Wazed Ali Choudhury at Bilasipra and Jales-war on March 22. More rallies will also be held in other parts of the constituency.

AIUDF candidate Barduddin Ajmal who has completed the first phase of poll campaign by a weeklong road show in all the 10 Assembly segments of Dhubri Lok Sabha, will kick off the second phase from April 15.

Dhubri AIUDF legislator Jahan Uddin said Hajoor Sab (Badruddin Ajmal) would campaign by helicopter in all the Assembly constituencies. “Altogether 21 poll rallies are being arranged, which is approximately two rallies in each of the constituencies. Hajoor Sab will kick off the campaign on April 15 and continue till April 22,” he added.

Dhubri BJP president Dipak Kumar Saha said the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rally at Dhubri was confirmed to be held on April 17. “Dates for the other star campaigners will be known after Modi’s rally.”

The president of Goalpara’s Trinamul unit, Gole Rahman, said the central party office in Calcutta had confirmed two rallies by Mithun Chakraborty, one at Barpeta Road and the other at Dhubri.“But the dates have not been finalised yet. Most probably after Bihu,” he said.
