Marandi to hit campaign trail

JVM supremo Babulal Marandi will garner support for party candidate Ajoy Kumar by visiting both urban and rural pockets of Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency from April 10 to 14.

Marandi will kick off the poll campaign from Ghurabanda and Chakulia on April 10. The JVM chief will fly back to Ranchi the same day and return on April 11 to seek votes for Kumar in Patamda and Potka.

Giving details of Marandi’s campaign trail, JVM central general secretary Abhay Singh said the former chief minister will visit Bahragora, Dalbhumgarh and Dumaria on April 12 before winding off his trip by addressing a rally in Jamshedpur on April 14.

“Babulalji is our star campaigner. His presence is vital for charting out our poll strategies,” a party functionary said.

Marandi had done a similar exercise for Kumar in run-up to the 2011 Lok Sabha by-elections. He campaigned in all the six assembly segments — Jamshedpur East, Jamshedpur West, Bahragora, Ghatshila, Potka and Jugsalai.

His campaign helped Kumar pull votes from the rural hinterland.

“We expect a re-run of the bypoll campaign,” said JVM media spokesperson (Kolhan) C.H. Ram Murty.

Jamshedpur goes to polls on April 17.
