Gangtok, April 6: Former Sikkim chief minister Nar Bahadur Bhandari announced today that his party, the Sikkim Sangram Parishad, would support the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha for the Assembly elections.
“We (SSP) had prepared our candidates and manifesto. But, considering the election this time is a straight fight between the Sikkim Democratic Front and SKM, we decided not to contest. Our party will fully support the SKM because if we participate, the votes would be divided,” said Bhandari. He added that SKM president P.S. Golay “has a vision for Sikkim. He will lead the state in a right way unlike what Chamling did in the last 20 years,” said Bhandari.
“The support to the SKM is on the request of the people who are seeking change in Sikkim and want to see the end of SDF rule. We are also very happy with the pro-people manifesto of the SKM. The SDF is fooling people with the same old promises,” he said.
Golay had met Bhandari at his residence two weeks back to seek support for his party. The SKM has welcomed Bhandari’s decision. “His decision is right and wise,” said M.N. Dahal, the spokesperson for SKM.
In another development, the publicity secretary of Sikkim Pradesh Trinamul Congress, Tara Chand Lohagan, and 40 others joined the SDF in a function at Pangthang in East Sikkim today.
