UTA emerge on top

Imphal, April 6: Union Taekwondo Academy (UTA) outkicked the competition to emerge champions in the 10th Governor’s Cup Taekwondo meet, which drew to a close at indoor stadium, Khuman Lampak, yesterday evening.

The UTA team amassed 454 points with 71 medals — 23 gold, 17 silver and 31 bronze. National Sports Academy (NSA) Imphal were a distant second with 270 points (11 gold, 14 silver and 12 bronze medals) and SAI RC came in third with 250 points (18 gold, five silver and nine bronze medals).

On the last day yesterday, UTA and NSA Imphal bagged two medals each. For UTA, N. Soniya bagged the gold in the sub-junior girls’ under-18kg bout and S. Priya came out on top in the junior girls’ over-59kg category.

NSA’s T. Meliba defeated teammate P. Pope for the gold in the cadet boys’ under-33kg category and Y. Karora got NSA their second gold, beating L. Ningthemba of SAI.

The CTA team also grabbed two gold medals with K. Uttam winning in the sub-junior boys’ category and Sur-ya Besta succeeding in the cad-et boys’ under-33kg category.

Th. Lucky Devi of Nambol won gold in the cadet girls’ under-29kg category, Rk. Kiran of CTI came out on top in the cadet girls’ over-68kg category and N. Sanukumar of SAI triumphed in the junior boys’ over-78kg category.
