Guwahati, April 4: Hosts Guwahati were sitting pretty with 256 runs for the loss of seven wickets against Nagaon till stumps were drawn on the first day of the Elite group four-day final of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy Senior Inter-district Cricket Tournament at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium here today.
Put in to bat, Guwahati put up the total playing 91 overs till the end of the first day’s play.
Hrishikesh Tamuli scored 57 runs off 161 balls, which featured six hits to the fence while southpaw Rahul Hazarika chipped in with 44 runs off 52 deliveries, which included six boundaries and a six.
All-rounder Sujay Tarafdar was at the crease with an unbeaten 39 runs off 65 balls while Kon Urang was at the other end without opening his account off four balls.
Biplab Saikia with 34 runs and Sunzow Brahma with 31 runs were the other notable contributors for the hosts on day one.
Nagaon’s left-arm spinner Bichitra Baruah scalped three wickets conceding 51 runs in 25 overs while Debojit Baruah picked up two wickets giving away 55 runs in 19 overs. Ashok Saini and Mrinmoy Dutta took one wicket each.
