United lead with 20 gold

- SAI, NSA complete top spots in tally

Imphal, April 4: United Taekwondo Academy led with 20 gold medals in the 10th Governor’s Cup Taekwondo held at Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak.

With a day left in the competition, SAI are currently in second spot with 15 gold while National Sports Academy Imphal have nine gold medals to make the top three.

UTA girls claimed four gold on the third day while the boys got two gold to increase their overnight tally.

In the sub-junior girls’ U-26kg bout, Umelly M. defeated Y. Bijeta of CTA for the gold while N. Diana of CTA collected the bronze medal.

M. Sarjubala in the senior girls’ under-67kg, S. Sushmita in the cadet girls’ under-59kg, G. Babina in the junior girls’ under-68kg, M. Romen in the senior men’s under-87kg and Dickson Singh in the sub-junior boys’ under-18kg bouts fetched gold medals for United Taekwondo Academy.

The SAI team also grabbed six gold medals with the boys bagging four gold and the girls two.

In the cadet boys’ under-57kg category, L. Lamyanba defeated A. Brojendro of NSA for the gold while L. Sudhir of IMRTA and Poujinlung Golmei of Naoriya settled for the bronze medals.

In the junior boys’ under-55kg category, Sh. James of SAI got the better of N. Jamesbond of NSA to win the gold while Rahul Tamang of NSA and S. Langjing of UTA collected the bronze medals.

The other SAI gold medals were fetched by N. Ranbirsana in the senior boys’ under-58kg, L. Ojit in the senior men’s under-68kg, Th. Basanti Devi in the senior girls’ under-53kg and Kh. Sanatombi in the senior girls’ over-73kg category.

The three NSA gold medals were fetched by W. Helena in the cadet girls’ under-51kg, N. Jina Devi in the junior girls’ under-42kg and O. Khuman Leima in the junior girls’ under-46kg bouts. The CTA and Nambol units also won a gold medal each.


The AIFF has appointed Chim Chim Serto as match official of the 20th Senior Women’s National Football Championship to be held in Dibrugarh.
