Three state players in third place

The fourth edition of JRD Tata International Rating Chess Tournament, currently underway in Jamshedpur, saw a bunch of five players leading the table after the seventh round on Thursday.

Srija Sesadri (Tamil Nadu), Sumit Grover (Jammu and Kashmir), Prabhat Koutha and Erigaisi Arjun (Andhra Pradesh) and Ashirwad Swain (Odisha) are currently the top five players with six points each.

As for the state contingent, Ajit Masih, Vatsal Singhania and Manisha Masih bagged the third spot with five points each. While Ajit and Vatsal defeated Bengal’s Tapan Kumar Dey and Andhra Pradesh’s Vishwanath Vivek, respectively, Manisha prevailed over Maharashtra’s Vishal Sahebrao

Jammu and Kashmir’s top seed Sumit, who had suffered an upset in the fourth round on Wednesday, bounced back on Thursday to outwit Md Jamiruddin of Services Sports Control Board (SSCB).
