Burdwan, April 3: Iswar Chandra Das, the CPM Lok Sabha poll candidate for Burdwan East, was today show-caused by the district administration after a picture lampooning the chief minister allegedly appeared on his Facebook profile.
Iswar denied having posted any such picture, saying “someone else could have done it”.
Late tonight, no such picture could be found on Iswar’s Facebook page.
According to a district official, Iswar has been asked to reply to the show-cause notice by tomorrow. The notice was served by the district magistrate following a complaint by the Trinamul observer for the district, Alok Das.
“Any person with minimum education and culture can’t do such a thing,” said Alok, who attached to his complaint a “printout” of the Facebook page showing the picture.
The sub-divisional officer of Burdwan’s Katwa, Mridul Haldar, has served a show-cause notice on Trinamul MLA Tapan Chatterjee for allegedly telling party workers at a meeting on March 11 not to allow Opposition polling agents inside booths. Chatterjee denied the allegation.
The Trinamul candidate for Behrampore, Indranil Sen, left a workers’ meeting along with minister Subrata Saha when members of two rival factions fought over a leader not being called to the dais.
The CPM has sent to the Election Commission a list of around 2,500 people who have allegedly been driven out of their homes by Trinamul supporters.
