Calcutta: The script did not promise any twists and turns ahead of the Odisha-Tripura match. Neither did it give any indication that it will offer some dramatic moments.
Odisha were the favourites and they didn’t fail to live up to the tag as they comprehensively beat Tripura by six wickets in their opening match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Chasing 117, they reached the target comfortably. Opener Paresh Patel was the highest scorer with 43 while Natraj Behera contributed a brisk 23.
The successful chase impressed coach Debasis Mohanty. “In these kind of tournaments, you need to start on a positive note. It gives you a lot of confidence while you prepare for the tougher battles ahead.
“Everything worked well for us today. We had specific plans and the players executed them well. The bowlers put up a disciplined performance and the batsmen applied themselves well. So it was a complete performance from the guys and I hope we can continue in this vein in the future also,” said Mohanty.
Earlier, the Odisha bowlers vindicated Natraj’s decision to field first as they bundled out Tripura for 116.
Brief Scores: Tripura 116 (M. Murasingh 38; J. Behera 3/22). Odisha 119/4 in 19 overs. Odisha won by 6 wickets
