Calcutta, April 1: Police complaints have been lodged under directions from the Election Commission against Birbhum Trinamul president Anubrata Mondal and magician P.C. Sorcar Jr, the BJP candidate for Barasat, for unsavoury remarks.
Burdwan police superintendent S.M.H. Meerza has lodged an FIR against Mondal for a provocative speech in Mangalkot last month when the Trinamul leader likened the Opposition to “rats that must be killed”.
Mondal has been charged under Section 107 of the IPC for “abetment in doing of a thing”.
The North 24-Parganas administration today lodged an FIR against Sorcar for remarks targeting the chief minister at a road show in Madhyamgram last Tuesday.
The commission had not been satisfied with the response to the show-cause notices served on Mondal and Sorcar.
