Bloc to take meet action

Balurghat, March 31: The Forward Bloc’s South Dinajpur secretary has said the party might take steps against those who turned up at the Left Front chairman Biman Bose’s meeting on Sunday defying the Bloc’s “unofficial whip”.

Bloc district secretary Swapan Tarafdar had said the party would not campaign for the Left candidate in Balurghat and not attend Bose’s meeting that was held here on Sunday as they had not been invited. While the Bloc’s ruling faction led by Tarafdar did not attend the meeting, another group led by Balurghat secretary Prabir Das was present.

Sources said Tarafdar ordered an internal probe into the matter. “The question of attending the meeting did not arise as we were not invited. But I came to know that one or two persons from the party attended it, which is unfortunate. We have arranged for a convention at Gangarampur on April 5 where the issue would be discussed and a decision would be taken (against those who went to the meeting),” he said.

Das said he was invited. “I went to the meeting as I was invited. If any step is taken against me, I will take measures (against it).”
