AJYCP blocks train

Jorhat, March 31: The AJYCP today blocked the Jan Shatabdi Express to Guwahati at the Na Ali rail gate here for about an hour, in protest against the non-running of long-distance trains from Jorhat town.

Siba Kalita, president of the Jorhat district committee, said for a decade or so now the AJYCP had been demanding the running of long-distance trains from Jorhat station, and the building of two over-bridges at the Na Ali and Gar Ali rail gates where traffic jams occur frequently when the rail gates are closed.

Another demand was the unloading of rakes at the Cinnamara station instead of at JPR Junction, which causes traffic jams when these are transported to different places by trucks and to the FCI godown at Cinnamara.

The blockade was lifted after a memorandum was submitted to an ADC here and a call was made to the deputy railway manager of the Tinsukia railway division, who said he would come here after a week and hold talks with the outfit regarding the demands.
