East Bengal look for consistency

Calcutta: “God is giving us plenty of opportunities… It’s high time we make use of them.”

Armando Colaco was bang on with his analysis. Certainly, the way tabletoppers Bengaluru FC are messing things up, it seems Kingfisher East Bengal are blessed with some good luck even though they keep throwing it away, committing blunders at crucial moments.

Probably, this would be their last chance to keep I-League title hopes alive should they prevail over Sporting Clube de Goa, on Sunday, at the Salt Lake Stadium. Full points against the Goa outfit will take East Bengal among the top five, reducing the deficit with Bengaluru FC to seven points.

That said, victory against Mumbai FC the other day would have kept Colaco’s men in a far better position. But they fumbled again at the last moment to not just lose points, but also make the scenario tougher for themselves.

“We might ring in a couple of changes tomorrow,” Colaco said. It appears Naoba Singh will replace Abhishek Das, while Ryuji Sueoka, brilliant against Mumbai FC, is set for a start. Besides, the team management is trying desperately to bring in Lalrindika Ralte, in place of Joaquim Abranches, to add that zing in the midfield.
