Teen hand in burglary

Jamshedpur, March 29: A teenaged tenant allegedly helped criminals decamp with jewellery, car and household items worth over Rs 15 lakh from the quarters of Tata Steel employee P.K. Hazra on Kulsi Road in Sakchi last night.

The victim’s elder brother B.K. Hazra reached the house this morning after neighbours called him. He said P.K. Hazra and his wife left for Sai Baba Temple in Shirdi on March 25 after leaving the house under the care of his tenant, Ashwini Samrat (17), a Class XII student of Govind Vidyalaya in Tamolia.

“My brother and sister-in-law will return on Sunday. They had locked their rooms, but had left the keys to the backdoor and the tenant’s room with the teen. Neighbours called me up today, saying the house had been burgled,” he added.

B.K. Hazra rushed in to find the refrigerator and other goods lying on the rear side of the house. “The backdoor was open, the locks to the rooms and garage broken, the tenant’s room was vacant and a car missing. From the tenant’s room, we found empty liquor bottles and some cannabis. When contacted, the boy, who was here till last night, said he had gone to his native place in Gaya,” said B.K. Hazra, who has lodged an FIR.

Sakchi OC Gopal Singh said they would send teams to Gaya to get hold of the tenant.
