Ransack row after accident

A group of autorickshaw drivers allegedly manhandled a 60-year-old man and ransacked his house in Sonarpurís Renia after his son protested when a three-wheeler hit his motorcycle from behind on Friday morning.

After the ransack, the elderly manís son allegedly beat up the auto driver, who apparently hit his bike, and damaged five autos in Bansdroni in the afternoon.

The manís family lodged a complaint against auto drivers with Sonarpur police station. The auto drivers lodged a counter-complaint with Bansdroni police station. No one has been arrested in either case.

The police said an auto on the Bansdroni-Renia route allegedly hit Avijit Naskarís bike while he was on his way home around 10.30am on Friday.

Naskar and the auto driver got engaged in an altercation, which was apparently resolved after local people intervened.

However, after an hour, some auto drivers allegedly ransacked Naskarís house and manhandled his father, Kamal Naskar.

ďAccording to Naskarís complaint, the men who had ransacked his house and manhandled his father included the auto driver who had rammed into his bike,Ē said an officer of Sonarpur police station.

Around 1.30am, Naskar and his accomplices allegedly assaulted the auto driver and damaged five autos by hitting them with iron rods and bricks at the Bansdroni auto stand.

The auto driver was taken to MR Bangur Hospital, from where he was discharged after treatment. ďHe later lodged a complaint against Naskar and four other men with Bansdroni police station,Ē said an officer.

The auto service on the route was affected for around an hour in the afternoon because of the incident.
