Tata win boxing meet

Tata Steel and Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) emerged champions in the sub-junior and senior categories, respectively, at the All India Inter-steel Plant Boxing Championship, which ended at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Thursday evening.

Suraj Soy from Tata Steel was adjudged best boxer in the sub-junior section while BSPís A. Velangni was declared the best loser. Vivek Das of Tata Steel emerged the best pugilist in the senior section whereas MDVP Jagannath of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) walked home with the best loser title.

Tata Steel ruled the roost in the sub-junior section by winning top slots in eight out of the total 13 bouts conducted throughout the day. The senior Tata boxers, on the other hand, won four of the 10 bouts in the day.

The home outfit maintained its grip over the proceedings after Gurmukh Singh defeated VSPís Md Sahzad 21-13 in the sub-junior 32-34kg lightweight section. In the same weight section, Tata boxer Selay Soy won against BSPís Khileshwar Tandon who dropped injured in the third round.

Y.P. Choubey, managing director of Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority handed over the prizes to the winning outfits.
