Khurai outride policemen

Imphal, March 26: Khurai Polo Club defeated Manipur Police Sports Club (C) 2-1 at Mapal Kangjeibung today to move into the semi-final of the fourth 57 Mountain Division Polo Tournament, 2014.

The outfield, which was wet owing to overnight rain, proved a nuisance for both teams who rode cautiously to minimise slipping. The careful play meant that no goals were scored in the first and second chukkers.

In the third chukker, the Khurai riders picked up their game and T. Roshan drove home the first goal in the 4.09th minute.

But Manipur Police rider M. Vivekananda came up with the equaliser in the 5.34th minute.

Khurai Polo Club, who have made a clean sweep of every major polo title this year, got the winning goal from L. Thompson in the 0.42nd minute of the fourth chukker.

In another quarter-final match, Manipur Police Sports Club (A) thrashed Eastern Studentsí Polo Club (A) 7-4 to sail into the semi-final.

Manipur Police made an early impact through M. Surjit, who scored in the 1.01th minute.

But Eastern Studentsí were quick to reply with B. Shantikumar hammering in the equaliser in the 2.01nd minute.

His teammate, A. Cameroon, put Eastern Students in the lead in the 3.09th minute of the first chukker.

Manipur Police increased the pace in the second chukker with S. Somorjit hitting home twice and I. Khaba scoring once. The policemen got their fifth goal through M. Bilam in the third chukker.

Eastern Students players H. Muhindro and Th. Momocha scored a goal each in the third and fourth chukkers. However, the experienced S. Bimol dashed their hopes, striking two goals to make it 7-4 for the policemen.

Junior Football

LYDU (B) Lilong beat NFC Narankonjil by a solitary goal to enter the final of the second LYSSU Junior Boysí Invitation Soccer Tournament, 2014, being played at Lilong in Imphal West.

S. Tony scored the winning goal for LYDU. In another semi-final, LYDU (A) beat LCDC 7-1 to enter the finals. S. Netrajit and N. Bhimojit struck three goals each for LYDU (A) while Rojesh scored the lone goal for LCDC.

Aqua Dew defeated Torque FC 1-0 to move into the semi-final of the second Zenoh Corporate Football Challenge, 2014, played at Tabungkhok in Imphal West. In the other quarterfinals, Blackberry beat City Hospital 1-0 while Apunba Fitness Centre beat Rajpri 5-3. Endeavour had already proceeded to the semi-final.
