The district administration has issued showcause notices to 205 arms licence holders who have not got their licences or the firearms verified for a long time.
Gaya district magistrate-cum-district election officer Balamurugan D. said if the replies to the notices were not found satisfactory, the licences would be cancelled.
“Eight arms licences in the district have already been cancelled, while 116 licensed firearms have been deposited in the respective police stations so far,” he said at a joint news meet with Gaya senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nishant Kumar Tiwary on Monday.
Verification of arms licences and the licensed firearms has been done in the district from March 7 to 14 in view of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled in the Gaya parliamentary constituency on April 10.
“Verification reports are still coming from the police stations and more show-cause notices could be issued in view of the reports,” the DM-cum-DEO said.
SSP Tiwary also said adequate security arrangements are being made for the polls. An inter-state (Bihar-Jharkhand) joint operation by central paramilitary forces has been intensified in the Naxalite-affected areas.
