Dibyendu wins chess title

Hailakandi, March 24: Dibyendu Das of Cachar yesterday won the senior title in the Kaushik Dey Chess Championship, organised by District Chess Association of Karimganj.

He tallied full five points from five rounds in the tournament.

Chayan Palit and Ashok Chakraborty of Karimganj finished second and third respectively.

In the junior section, Piyal Roy Choudhury of Karimganj was the champion, scoring 3.5 points.

Pradipta Das and Manav Bhattacharjee, also of Karimganj, had to contend with the second and third positions with three and 2.5 points respectively.

In the sub-junior group, Sudipto Das of Karimganj secured the first position with 2.5 points from three rounds.

Nabanil Das and Samrat Dev Purkayastha got the second and third positions respectively.

Karate: Guwahati emerged overall champions in the TG Baruah Cup third Youth and Veteran and fifth Under-21 Assam State Karate-Do Championship organised by the United Karate-Do Association at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan indoor stadium here from March 22 to 23.
