Expert plea on heritage

Mangaldoi, March 24: Sangeet Natak Akademi winner and an exponent of Suknani Ojapali, Kinaram Nath, yesterday appealed to the people to preserve their rich cultural heritage.

Nath, speaking at the silver jubilee celebration of Youth Club Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, a premier institution in Darrang, said the new generation should come forward for the development and preservation of the rich cultural heritage.

A cultural extravaganza was organised on the occasion at the district library auditorium here. Young artistes performed Deodhani, Xattriya, Bharatanatyam and other folk and classical dances of the country.

Singer Rupam Bhuyan enthralled the audience with his melodious numbers followed by singer Mira Das Sahariah. Dancer Bhanu Saharia Deka performed Xattriya dance at the programme.

Mathematician Bijoy Krishna Deva Sarma, researcher of traditional folk culture Binoy Kumar Medhi, Xattriya dance expert Murrari Mohan Sarma, actor Dwijen Chaliha and AIR senior artiste Kanika Bhattacharya were felicitated at the programme.
