Calcutta: Tolgay Ozebe’s 77th minute strike helped Dempo SC register a 1-0 victory over Mohammedan Sporting in an I-League match, here, on Saturday.
The win takes Dempo to fifth place with 29 points from 20 matches while Mohammedan Sporting, who are fighting to beat the drop, remained in the 12th place with 17 points from 19 matches.
In another match, Salgaocar lost a chance to close the gap with leaders Bengaluru FC after they drew 0-0 with United SC. Salgaocar were frustrated by the rival defenders who put up a solid performance to subdue Dudu Omagbemi and Darryl Duffy upfront.
Dempo were in full strength against Mohammedan Sporting with Clifford Miranda and defender Simon Colosimo back in the side after one match suspension. Tolgay, who was also in the starting eleven after recovering from a niggling injury, created all sorts of trouble for his former team and had a couple of clear chances towards the end of the first half but could not score.
Dempo even earned a penalty in the 39th minute but Tolgay’s weak shot was blocked by Mohammedan Sporting goalkeeper Luis Barreto and off the rebound, Romeo too failed to score.
