Sun shield for Moon in Bankura

Bankura, March 22: The Bankura unit of Trinamul has delivered on its most important pre-poll assignment. It has found a bungalow in a leafy compound that party nominee Moon Moon Sen can use as a temporary address while campaigning in the sweltering heat of the district.

Nestled on a 15-cottah plot in Kenduadihi, around 500 metres from a circuit house and adjacent to the local post office, the bungalow has five rooms, a kitchen, a storeroom and a garage. It has a built-up area of over 2,500sqft.

A portico and two gardens, one in front of the house and the other at the back, give the 60-year-old bungalow an old-world charm.

“The task of getting a proper accommodation for Moon Moon was difficult. We are happy we have got this bungalow. We hope she likes it. If she does, we will rent it,” said Arup Khan, the Trinamul district president.

Those entrusted with the house-hunt were told to look for a big compound as Moon Moon is likely to be joined by her daughters, Raima and Riya, and some Tollywood stars during the campaign.

The bungalow, sources said, had been lying vacant and its owner, Sujit Kumar Dutta, promptly agreed when Khan sought its as accommodation for Moon Moon.

In the past few days, the Bankura Trinamul has got the bungalow painted in Mamata Banerjee’s favourite white and blue. The party has also got the building and the compound cleaned.

The two bedrooms and the living and dining rooms have been readied so that Moon Moon can move in, sources said.

“A part of the house needed plastering and that has been done. The floor tiles have been replaced. Two air-conditioners will be installed in the two bedrooms, either tonight or tomorrow. A power load extension has been done,” said Dutta, the owner.

Moon Moon is scheduled to make her first trip to Bankura as Trinamul candidate tomorrow for a workers’ meeting. District leaders want to show the bungalow to the actress during her visit.

Moon Moon is likely to be accompanied by party all-India general secretary Mukul Roy and panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee, who had contested the Bankura Lok Sabha seat in 2009.

Sources close to the actress said she was undecided on spending the night in Bankura tomorrow as she did not have any immediate plans of launching her campaign.

“She will hit the campaign trail the moment she gets the green light from Mamata,” a source said.

However, Trinamul supporters have started campaigning in Bankura and the exercise will pick up speed once Moon Moon arrives, the sources said.

Khan, the Bankura Trinamul president, said Moon Moon would take a call on where she would stay.

“We have three options — this bungalow, a house in Powabagan near the Block I block development officer’s office, and two rooms in Saptaparna Hotel. She will decide where she will stay,” he said.
