Calcutta: Sanjoy Sen’s Mohammedan Sporting face an uphill task when they take on Dempo SC in an Airtel I-League match at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa, on Saturday.
In another match of the day, Salgaocar would be looking to close the gap at the top when they take on United SC in at the Tilak Maidan, in Vasco.
Mohammedan Sporting are placed 12th, only above bottom-placed Churchill Brothers who have a match in hand and are two points behind. But Sen is not perturbed by the threat of relegation.
“I don’t see this as a relegation battle. Apart from us, there are five other teams who are facing relegation. The players know what they have to do,” said Sen.
Dempo are placed sixth with 25 points from 19 matches. Mohammedan Sporting (17 points) are among the relegation contenders along with Churchill (15) and Mumbai FC (20).
Teams like Mohun Bagan (21) and Rangdajied United FC (21) are also not entirely safe and Sen is aware of that.
“It will be good to have those three points but if not, a point is an absolute must. We are confident to eke out a draw. Leaving Goa without a point will be disastrous,” said Sen on Friday.
