Navarang triumph

- Santipur go down fighting

Guwahati, March 20: Navarang Club inflicted a five-wicket defeat on Santipur Athletic Club in a match of the Bhupen Chandra Mahanta Guwahati Sports Association A Division Cricket League at Nehru Stadium here today.

Put in to bat, Santipur Athletic Club put up 136 runs before being bundled out in 32.1 overs.

Top order batsman Abdul Saher Islam scored 33 runs off 55 balls in an innings laced with five boundaries.

Mantu Razzak contributed 24 runs off 39 deliveries with two boundaries. Ibrahim Ali chipped in with 23 runs off 38 balls.

For Navarang, Vishal Roy scalped three wickets conceding 29 runs in his allotted seven overs, while Azahar Ali and Rajib Kalita picked up two wickets each.

In reply, the Navarang boys got past the target losing five wickets in 25.3 overs.

Kaushik Oja topscored with a fine knock of 54 runs off 53 balls, which included three hits to the fence and four over the rope, while Rajib Kalita chipped in with an unbeaten knock of 47 runs off 43 deliveries which featured five boundaries and a six.

Spinner Ibrahim Ali picked up three wickets going for 45 runs in his quota of overs.

School cricket: The Art of Cricket Club is organising the 1st under-15 inter-school cricket tournament at Janata Bhawan ground here from April 2 to 12. Several leading school teams of the city are expected to participate in the meet.
