AGP nominee confident of win

Bongaigaon, March 20: Phani Bhusan Chaudhury, AGP candidate from Barpeta Lok Sabha seat, today said he was confident of defeating his rivals, Ismail Hussain of the Congress and Chandra Mohan Patowary of the BJP.

Chaudhury, the AGP legislator from Bongaigaon Assembly seat for six consecutive terms, said, I had no plan to contest the parliamentary election but accepted the candidature offered by my senior leaders to counter the BJPs conspiracy of destroying the AGP.

The demand for Scheduled Tribe status by five indigenous communities and viable remedies for flood and erosion damage top his poll agenda, he said. On the tie-up with the BJP, Chaudhury said though they initially showed interest, they betrayed at the last moment to protect their interests.

Chaudhury said as he has been winning the Bongaigaon Assembly seat for the past 30 years, he was confident of victory from the Barpeta Lok Sabha seat this time.

He said the AGPs tally would increase than the last Lok Sabha polls because the minority communities would not hesitate to vote the AGP as an alternative to the Congress, the BJP and the AIUDF.
