Tale of three netas
- Amitabh gets off to a flyer, Bidyut flashes a ‘V’ & Subodh sights the stars

JMM turncoat Bidyut Baran Mahto arrived to a BJP hero’s welcome in Jamshedpur on Thursday. Hundreds of party workers braved the heat and waited at Sakchi roundabout to catch a glimpse of their MP hopeful. They danced to the beats of tasas and nagadas, and held up traffic. The former Baharagora legislator of JMM, who was inducted into the BJP fold in New Delhi on Wednesday, was hugged and garlanded as soon as he got off his gleaming SUV. Loyalists of senior BJP leader Sarayu Roy and the party’s Jamshedpur East MLA Raghubar Das, however, remained conspicuous by their absence. “I am very impressed by Narendra Modi. BJP is the only party that can channelise development in Jharkhand,” Mahto said. The BJP candidate will shortly hit the road for campaigning. He will tour the six Assembly segments of Baharagora, Jugsalai, Potka, Jamshedpur East and West and Ghatshila that fall under the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency.

Confident as Hercules, Jharkhand’s cricket boss Amitabh Choudhary filed his nomination as a JVM candidate for the Ranchi parliamentary seat on Thursday.

Natty in his trademark white tee paired with blue jeans, the 54-year-old former IPS officer made a starry entry in an open jeep, filed his details with the returning officer and made an equally dramatic exit with jibes at sitting Congress MP Subodh Kant Sahay.

Here’s what you’d want to know about IIT-Kharagpur graduate Choudhary and his “lesser” rivals

QUOTE UNQUOTE

I am going to win this election. I think the contest will be between the BJP candidate (Ram Tahal Choudhary) and me. Subodh Kant Sahay (of the Congress) should worry whether he will be able to save his deposit

CHALLENGERS

Subodh Kant Sahay (64): The former Union minister is likely to file his nomination either on March 22 or 25, as advised by astrologers. He spent Thursday morning doing a padyatra from Piska More to Albert Ekka Chowk. In the afternoon, he went to Chandil — a part of Ichagarh Assembly constituency that is a segment of the Ranchi LS seat. On Friday, Sahay is likely to visit Chatra, where party nominee Dhiraj Prasad Sahu is expected to file his nomination

Anjani Pandey (56): The CPI(ML)-Liberation leader filed his nomination as an Independent on Thursday. Only a science graduate compared to Choudhary’s bright academic credentials, Pandey who is from Aurangabad district in Bihar has declared cash savings of Rs 25,000. “I am basically a poor farmer. Please don’t expect me to have a bank account or property,” he said

Others: Ram Tahal Choudhury (BJP), Bandhu Tirkey (TMC)
