Calcutta: Mohun Bagan entered the final of the CAB senior knock-out tournament defeating Kalighat Club by 68 runs, here, on Wednesday.
But the match saw two senior Bengal players, Ashok Dinda and Wriddhiman Saha, at loggerheads. Bagan’s Saha, who has opted out of the upcoming Deodhar Trophy, played the semi-final. But though he batted, he did not keep wickets.
With Bagan winning within the first day, this did not go down too well with Kalighat’s Dinda. He complained to the umpire that Saha should not have been allowed to play.
“I protested following the rules… He is not going to take part in the Deodhar Trophy, but is ready to play for the club?” said Dinda.
Saha, however, said he wanted to test his fitness and so he played on Wednesday. A fractured toe has been giving him trouble, and even on Wednesday, he found it painful while batting. That’s why he decided not to keep wickets, Saha reasoned.
The Cricket Association of Bengal officials, however, played down the incident and said no formal complaint has been lodged.
