Calcutta: East Bengal did not know till Friday afternoon that Harmanjyot Singh Khabra was suspended for the I-League match against Lajong FC.
Khabra was shown four yellow cards — the last one being against Mohammedan Sporting — and was obviously not eligible to play Friday’s match. After they came to know of the setback, East Bengal had to give another players’ list to the match commissioner Michael Andrews, where Subodh Kumar was drafted in.
The AIFF claimed they had informed the clubs about the suspensions well in advance.
East Bengal manager Manish Banerjee refuted that. “In the managers’ meeting on Wednesday, the match commissioner did not say anything about Khabra’s suspension. So how can AIFF say we were in the loop?” Banerjee asked.
