German intern molested

New Delhi, March 14: A German national was allegedly molested by an autorickshaw driver and then robbed by another man while she was heading to Lajpat Nagar in south-east Delhi, police said.

The woman, who is doing her internship with a private company in Delhi, approached the police on Wednesday, four days after the incident. No one has been arrested.

“She has been living in the capital to pursue her internship for the past four months and was supposed to return in April,” said a police officer.

In her police complaint, the woman, in her early 30s, said she had hired an auto from Max Mueller Bhavan in central Delhi on March 8 at 10.20pm to go to her rented place in Lajpat Nagar.

Soon after boarding the auto, she activated GPS on her cell phone to keep tabs on the vehicle’s movement.

“Around 10.30pm, the driver stopped the auto on a deserted road on the pretext of searching for a particular tool kept under the rear seat. He started touching her deliberately while claiming to search for the tool,” the police said.

Terrified, the woman rushed out of the vehicle and tried to raise an alarm. Suddenly, a motorcyclist at high speed appeared on the scene, snatched her purse and sped away.

“She ran behind the motorcyclist to note the registration number but could not. By the time she came back to the auto, the driver had fled,” a police officer said.

The woman then walked to her place. She is believed to have consulted friends before approaching the police.

Deputy commissioner S.B.S. Tyagi said a case had been registered under IPC section Section 354 A (sexual harassment, physical contact, advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures, verbal or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature) and snatching.

“The woman’s statement under Section 164 CrPC has been recorded before a magistrate,” he said.
