A collection of silk handlooms with attractive prints and fashionable designs is on display at an exhibition at hotel Radisson Blu in Ranchi.
Opened on Friday, shoppers have already started thronging the venue in scores to pick the best garments created out of the classic fabric.
An initiative of the development commissioner of handlooms, Union ministry of textiles, the exhibition is hosted with the help of National Handloom Development Corporation to provide direct access to handloom weavers to market their products. It will continue till March 27.
From the splendid mulberry silk to Eri silk and matte tussar silk, the exhibition titled Silk Fab offers many choices.
The kiosks are displaying silk saris, home furnishings and silk dress materials of different states. Moonga silk of Assam, Chanderi of Madhya Pradesh, Bomkai of Odisha, Baluchari of Bengal, Kanjivaram of Tamil Nadu and tussar organic silk of Jharkhand are grabbing eyeballs. Latest designs of silk scarves, ties for men, suits and duppattas are also available.
The participants are from various state government bodies, handloom weavers’ societies and agencies.
This time, as many as 70 handloom weavers’ societies and agencies from 15 states are participating. All these weavers are recipients of National Award for Design.
Md Soni, a weaver from Bhagalpur cluster in Madhya Pradesh, is more than happy to participate for the second time. “Last year we had participated. I am pleased to sell my products once again,” he added.
Exhibition in-charge Hari Mohan Sharma said, “We started organising this fair in Ranchi in 2012. The response has always been overwhelming.”
The exhibition is open from 11am to 8pm.
