Road rage over death

Dhubri, March 12: Nurul Haque, 55, a cart-puller of Chagolia part–II village in Dhubri district, died today when a police constable allegedly slapped him near the Chagolia inter-state checkgate, while he was unloading goods from his cart.

Local residents agitated over police excesses staged a blockade in front of the Chagolia police outpost on National Highway 31. They withdrew the blockade only after additional superintendent of police D. Bora assured the crowd that the two constables present at the spot and one of whom allegedly slapped Haque would be suspended, a source said.
