Calcutta: India retained the Davis Cup team that thrashed Chinese Taipei 5-0 at home for their next encounter, in South Korea, to be played from April 4-6.
Somdev Dev Varman, Yuki Bhambri, Rohan Bopanna and Saketh Myneni will travel to Busan to fight for a place in the World Group playoffs, according to an AITA press release.
Ranked 78th, Somdev is India’s best hope in the singles, while Yuki Bhambri, at 146, will shoulder the responsibility along with him. The experienced Bopanna will be the main cog in the doubles team, with Myneni expected to team up with him.
The rather young team will have Anand Amritraj as the non-playing captain, while Zeeshan Ali has been retained as coach.
In nine meetings between the two teams, India have never defeated the South Koreans at their home.
