Calcutta University has deferred all its undergraduate exams because of the Lok Sabha elections.
The commencement of the BA, BSc and BCom Part III (honours and general) exams has been deferred by seven weeks; BA, BSc and BCom Part II (honours and general) exams by six weeks; and the BA, BSc and BCom Part I (honours and general) by around four weeks.
According to the revised schedule, the BA, BSc and BCom Part III (honours) examinations will begin on May 26. They were to begin on April 9. The BA and BSc Part III (general) exams will begin on June 3, instead of April 23 as announced earlier. The BCom Part III (general) exams will begin on June 4, instead of April 24.
The BA-BSc-BCom Part III results will be announced within 45 days of the completion of the exams. “This will ensure that candidates who want to seek admission to postgraduate courses at institutions abroad are not inconvenienced,” said an official.
“Provisional mark sheets will be issued to the students who would take admission to institutes elsewhere,” said Dhrubojyoti Chatterjee, Calcutta University pro vice-chancellor (academic).
CU normally holds Part III exams in April and takes about 65 days to announce the results. This year the exams will be on till June 7. Even if the varsity publishes the results within 45 days of the completion of the exams, the students won’t get to know their results before July 22. Some students said those who take admission abroad are required to produce mark sheets in the beginning of July.
