Calcutta, March 9: The RSP today took strong exception to the manner in which the CPM denied it a Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, forcing it to withdraw from the Left Democratic Front alliance yesterday.
“The CPM had promised us the Kollam seat six months ago. Our miffed Kerala leaders had no option but to withdraw,” RSP central secretariat member Abani Roy said over the phone from Delhi today.
Asked if the Kerala unit’s decision would affect the RSP’s relations with the CPM in Bengal, Roy said: “First let me assess the situation in Kerala. Only then can the central committee take a call on the matter.”
Of the 20 seats in Kerala, the CPM is contesting 16, while four seats have been given to the CPI. “This is humiliation,” said Bengal RSP secretary Kshiti Goswami.
